Perfect is the enemy of good.
I have procrastinated on several blog posts wanting to publish the perfect piece. While this is alright once in a while (when you know in your entire being that you are working on a masterpiece), perfection is often an excuse to not do the work.
The first writing exercise in today’s #WriteWithOSMe session was to write a short piece in 10 minutes. With the following rule – the first sentence should begin with A, the next sentence with B, and so on.
On some days you produce great work and on other days you wonder who wrote this piece: you or a monkey randomly typing letters on the keyboard. This piece felt like the latter.
Alphabet Soup
A blog post you write can change a person’s life.
Bingo! You now have a purpose for writing. Can you now use this as inspiration to write regularly? “Definitely”, you say?
Every day, without fail; “No zero days” as James Clear says in his book Atomic Habits.
First things first – your writing must deliver value. Great writing is about the reader, and not about you. Happy readers return to read your work.
Indeed, selflessness is applicable in all realms, including online writing.
Just put yourself in the reader’s shoes and say how you will address their problem. Kudos to you if you can achieve this simple-sounding yet hard task.
Lady Luck favours the brave.
Most people call luck that which is really hard work and effort. Now, half the battle is to show up, whatever the field is. On the face of it, showing up is not too hard, but look at the number of people who quit early.
Perseverance is the name of the game.
Quite simple, if you think about it. Rising to the occasion is a matter of rising without snoozing the alarm. Simple.
That will give you an edge over others. Unless you quit (and yes, you and I both need this reminder).
Very good.
Words have the power to change a person’s life.
Xcellent, then.
