The book  Atomic Habits  by James Clear emphasizes  the principle of ‘’get one percent better every day ‘’. James Clear believes change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions. Say, two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call. He calls them Atomic Habits. The book has many inspiring stories of Olympic gold medalists, leading CEOs and distinguished scientists, who have  used the science of tiny habits to saty productive , motivated and happy.

Some insightful  quotes :

“When you fall in love with the process rather than the product, you don’t have to wait to give yourself  permission to be happy. You can be satisfied anytime your system is running.”

“All big things come from small beginnings. The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision. But as that decision is repeated, a habit sprouts and grows stronger. Roots entrench themselves and branches grow. The task of breaking a bad habit is like uprooting a powerful oak within us. And the task of building a good habit is like cultivating a delicate flower one day at a time.”

‘’ “The more pride you have in a particular aspect of your identity, the more motivated you will be to maintain the habits associated with it. If you’re proud of how your hair looks, you’ll develop all sorts of habits to care for and maintain it. If you’re proud of the size of your biceps, you’ll make sure you never skip an upper-body workout. If you’re proud of the scarves you knit, you’ll be more likely to spend hours knitting each week. Once your pride gets involved, you’ll fight tooth and nail to maintain your habits.”’’

‘’ If you aren’t sure when to satr your habit try the first day of the  week , month, or the year .’’

May be it is time to remember our  New Year resolutions ? Or did we had any ?

There are interesting chapters like :The truth about talent ( When genes matter and when they don’t ) The goldilocks rule ( How to saty motivated in life and work ) The downside of creating good habits , Walk slowly but never backward , How an accountability partner can change everything etc.

I give it five stars. A great buy.
