During my adolescent days, I had the problem of cracked lips.
I consulted a dermatologist who prescribed some expensive tablets, and an ointment.
As I was short of money, I came back sans medicines.
When my paternal grandfather, an established practitioner of the Unani System Of Medicine, came to know of my condition, he suggested, “Son, massage the inside of your navel daily with two-three drops of mustard oil after the bath.”
I acted upon his advice, my lips became as smooth as a marble slab within a week!
In a country like ours, where a sizable population can’t afford even two square meals a day, such low-cost remedies would definitely prove to be a boon.
AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) Systems Of Medicine have the potential to deliver the goods.
Though I am not per se against the Allopathic System Of Medicine, it has certain drawbacks :
(a) The cost of treatment for most diseases is prohibitive.
(b) Allopathic medicines have serious side effects.
For example, the usage of pain relievers can damage the liver.
(c) It has no treatment for many India-specific diseases like displacement of the navel (धरण/नाभि खिसकना).
This particular ailment can be corrected either by Yoga or Ayurveda.
(d) Unlike AYUSH Systems Of Medicine that uproot the diseases completely, Allopathic medicines only “suppresses” the symptoms.
Though Hippocrates, the father of Modern Medicine laid much emphasis on Ethics, it is dismaying to see that some unscrupulous hospitals/doctors have conveniently forgotten the injunctions of Hippocrates.
Hefty fees are shamefully taken for treating insignificant diseases.
Needless operations are done to make a quick buck.
Patients are sent for unnecessary, expensive tests to get hefty “commissions” from “friendly” laboratories.
These immoral practices must be stopped!
Although patients and their attendants are helpless before the greedy hospitals/doctors but believe me, curses given from sad/angry hearts never go unheeded!
