It’s like being under a heavy blanket, unable to get up
Your head’s draped, and you open your eyes and see black.
No one can slip their hand into it to help you out
It weighs down on you, suffocating you
So you just close your eyes and let yourself be swallowed by the dark.
The only sweet music you hear is yourself breathe
And you wonder if they might just shut that off too
For everything you do is too loud
You’re just tossing and turning to life’s tunes,
Wondering in the dark, if they’ll cancel out your own.
They say it’s a beautiful blanket, you haven’t seen it though.
Or perhaps they don’t, because you hear only muffled voices
Their compliments settle like tired dust on the blanket, never reaching you.
Or perhaps they bounce off into the distance
You don’t know. You don’t know anything.
A/N: First of all, Jai Sri Hari! Secondly, I just want to drop a quick message- this poem does not in any way reflect my present state of mind, which is very happy, having a warm blanket, but unlike the one in the poem to lie in. Like I said, this was my first attempt (rather lousy) at a freestyle poem, so do excuse my not-so-good use of vocabulary, unlike some very talented and beautiful writers on this platform. I hope to get better at it! I am sincerely so grateful to each one of you for taking some time out to read this, it means so much to me.
Lastly, but definitely not the least, my heartfelt thanks to Reeshi (🙃) for always motivating me to try writing something different, or even write regularly, for that matter. This post would not have reached my osdotme profile if he hadn’t encouraged (and kind of scolded) me to post it! So, thank you so much, Rishi.
I’m so sorry I haven’t been even slightly active on osdotme recently, although I know I’ve been making a lot of promises that I would. There’s a ton of homework, piling up day by day, adding to the syllabus. I do hope to finish it soon and be amongst my favourite folks again. Till then, enjoy the time off without a teenager on your hands 🙃, because I’ll be back very soon! Might as well make the best of it.
Lots of love to each one of you. Thank you for being a part of my life and making it blissful. Jai Sri Hari!
