In the audio program by Dandapani, he goes into great detail as to how we can build our awareness by using daily activities which we anyway have to do. It’s quite similar to what Swamiji describes in the book “A Million Thoughts” in the last chapter where he tells us to do all our daily activities with utmost mindfulness. I can provide many more details than this short gist, but I’d rather demonstrate this with an example:

What are the non-negotiable daily activities in my life every single day?

  1. Morning routine:
    1. having wheatgrass juice
    2. warm glass of water
    3. using drishti eye drops and jyotishmati oil
  2. Taking a bath
  3. Meditation/Pranayam/Some yogic practise
  4. Eating lunch
  5. Eating dinner
  6. Talking to family members
  7. Brushing teeth

I’m sure there are many more items to this and will keep adding to it. For now, the next step as per Dandapaniji is to take these up one activity at a time and start performing them with utmost mindfulness and also keep track of how much our mind wandered during the activity. Since I am working on making very small changes currently, I will introduce these items but at a very steady pace, still I am keeping this as a checklist of items that I need to eventually start doing mindfully.

As per the author, let’s say we take 20 minutes every day to take bath and we start doing that with utmost awareness, that’s as good as doing 20 minutes of good quality concentrative meditation. If the claims are correct then the results will far outweigh the effort and surely these items will get added to my already ongoing 1% changes series but one at a time and with sufficient breathing room in between.
