There is a Ram mandir in my locality. When I visited for the first time, I did not feel anything different; instead, I had anger. I was at my lowest and wanted to spend some time with the lord. Usually, I visit the ISKON temple, but on that day, I was late. When I entered the temple, eyes of people started bothering me. People looked at me like I came from a different planet or was not meant to be there. That person who was singing aarti of Bhagwan was looking in the same way. My sister asked me, how’s that temple? I said i did not liked. She said, oh, don’t say that. That’s a temple. Her reaction was expected. But I was being truthful.
So, after few days. I tried again. I revisited the temple. Eyes of people were the same, but I was trying to ignore and interact with the diety. There was a small temple of lord shiva, so I went there. I went; I just wanted to offer water and Chandan tilak as it’s a traditional ritual. That moment took me in my childhood. But what I saw there was a cockroach. I got emotional. I wanted to pick that, but I was scared. That moment is still bothering me; that cockroach is still bothering me.
This might be offensive, but this is not respectable. That’s why people don’t visit temples as often as they used to. Devotion is exemplary, prayer is good, but respect also matters. I consider myself too in that category. I could have picked that cockroach, but I did not because that was normal. This was not the first time I saw this kind of thing.
It happens. This normally happens. Let’s pray , instead of looking at others when we get some time or when the lord calls us to spend some time with him. I narrated the whole incident to my boss. He said this is a fact. These kind of things happen. People like us need to talk about it. We don’t only need to talk about it but we need to take action too. I will try to do my part and I will work on myself.
So, whenever we visit any religious place, we should respect that place. If you ever see a cockroach, please pick that from there.
PS: I apologize if I hurt the sentiments of anyone.
Keep smiling,
Thank you,
Riya Om
