Hi Everyone
Early this month I made a vision board inspired by Nikunj and I was sure I will fail miserably because till date I never made any resolution.
But this year something has changed and I don’t know what. Yes I am that ignorant you see. 🙂
I am someone who has been conditioned to be productive all the time. If I am sitting idle doing nothing, I feel guilty. And this habit has definitely made me an anxious person.
Lately I realized this habit is affecting my health as I used to feel strong palpitations and drained out during the day.
So when the idea of having a micro habit in our daily routine came up, I thought let me try it out.
Micro habits are small, manageable actions that can be taken consistently to build a larger habit over time. The advantages are that they are easy to start and maintain and can lead to larger changes.
Further consistently doing a small habit can make us feel more accomplished and encourage to take on more difficult goals. And I am always ready for challenges and nature never disappoints me.
Few weeks back I was dizzy when I woke up, so much so that looking straight for few seconds was a big challenge. I was walking like a drunkard at 5.30am in the morning. (Now don’t try to visualise that). 🙂
When I was stable I got up, dropped daughter to bus stand and took help of Google Devta to know what’s the issue.
And I got to know that sitting up for a few minutes after getting out of bed in the morning can help to reduce dizziness and light headedness that can occur as a result of sudden changes in blood pressure. This is because when you’re lying down, blood can pool in your legs, and when you stand up quickly, it can take a moment for your body to adjust and pump the blood back up to your brain.
This made me firm and I decided to make this my micro habit for January.
Now I snooze my alarm for 10 mins, turn to my left side and lie down for few seconds, then sit up crossed leg and try to visualise my Guru and finally sit with legs hanging down from bed for few seconds before I actually get out of bed.
Don’t know how but till date I have not missed this a single day and I am always mindful of following it. Earlier I used to rush but now this whole activity, which hardly takes 2 minutes, has become a natural routine.
In short, I have become lazy in the morning and I am not even feeling guilty about it. 😁
Further I have not felt dizzy after that. And I feel I am more productive and calm, specially with my daughter. We spend quality time before she gets ready for her school. We sit, drink water together while having a question answer session- like why Ravana kidnapped Sita, he should have taken Ram ji and how the world would be if there were no mosquitoes.🙄
Earlier such questions used to irritate me , now I answer them calmly and also accepts politely if I am not capable of satisfying her curious mind. Further I am able to do some chanting too in the morning.
I mean I had so much time but because I was always in rush I never appreciated it.
Now this slowing down process in the morning is definitely helping me to be a better version of myself.
Also I checked my vision board today and found, unconsciously, I am able to follow my March (5 days a week workout) and August (6 days a week home cooked meal) habits too.
The purpose of writing this post is that working towards smaller goals does work and I am saying this with my first hand experience.
