Everyone in my circle, be it virtual or physical, generally aims for a materially better and best life, if not for self then for kids for sure. And majority looks for US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore.
I have yet to come across any middle class Indian who is discussing, talking about some poor or under developed country, forget aiming to settle there or even visiting as a tourist.
Everyone thinks to give themselves or their kids A BETTER life. And to them better only means – more luxury, more technology, more comforts. That comes down to moving to some country richer than India, i.e. more developed. Although Bhutan has the highest Happiness Quotient but only someone like me would prefer it over some other developed one.
Whenever I read about many countries of Africa and Latin America it feels sad to know that people are mal-nourished, exploited, and what not. Yesterday read about Venezuela – its deteriorated economy and almost collapsed structure. 90% people there are living in poverty. 20% have already left their country. Means these are the countries much down than our country. Also there are few other like North Korea who are so closed that its difficult even to peep inside their real life.
Learning about rest of the world, especially those people who are less privileged than me, is depressing. And knowing that a middle class like me is still among few fortunates who live a comfortable life, provide much support to the mental / emotional downward graph. Well, am discussing this just for discussion sake, with simply no malice towards anyone.
After all, its a healthy conversation that makes a weak mind healthy.
