Karmaphala/कर्मफल

You are enjoying the delicious food at the restaurant. Suddenly you see a poor hungry boy outside the restaurant.  You buy some food, come outside and offer it to that boy. Boy eats food and smiles. He looks happy and grateful to you. Watching his smiling face, you also smile.

You have done a particular action. Action of offering food to the hungry boy. This action has given two results. One is Immediate and visible result – That boy became happy and you too.
Second result is Invisible-  Your very action/ karma carried out with good intention ( giving food to the hungry) has added the punya/ merit in your account.

A thief steels the money purse of a man. He takes out the money from the purse and puts it in his pocket and throws the purse.
The thief smiles, watching his pocket swollen with the stolen money- This is the immediate visible result.
But the Invisible result of his action is-  Because of his bad intention (snatching the others money),  papam/ demerit is added in his account.

We continuously go on doing the actions like this.
Our every action has the results. Actions are called karma or kriya.

Actions done with good intentions are good karma, because those contribute to the happiness in present or future.
That’s why we usually say – ‘ This man is happy because he must have more punyas/ merits out of his good karmas’.

Actions done with bad intentions are bad karma because those contribute to the sufferings in present or future.
That’s why we say, -‘ That man is always sad and suffering because he must have more papam/ demerits out of his bad karmas.

The results of actions/ karma whether those are good or bad; immediate or late, visible or invisible are called karmaphala/ कर्मफल. I.e. fruits of actions.

Thus just like some fruits are sweet and some are sour, karmaphalas are also good / sweet and bad/ sour according to the intentions the actions are carried out.

A sweet mango gives us immediate joy of its sweetness. That is visible effect. The nutritious qualities of mango gives the health benefits which are Invisible after effects.

Thus there are two effects of every action.
1. Drushtaphal /द्रुष्टफल/ visible result
2. Adrushtaphal /अद्रुष्टफल/ Invisible result

Drishtaphal is seen immediate.

You have donated the money for puja in the temple. Immediate/visible result/ drishtaphal is – The pandits  bought prasadam and other things for the puja in the temple.
The good karma of offering for the puja added the punyam/ merit  in your account- invisible/ adrishtaphal.

You scolded your child for not doing homework.  Visible result is- your child started crying.
Invisible result is – punyam/ merit is added in your account. Because although scolding seems to be the bad conduct, the intention behind the scolding was good. (It’s for betterment of the child.)

We do ‘n’ number of actions in our life. We must keep in mind that we have to experience the consequences of these actions immediately or later in our life or in next birth.
It is the quantity of invisible results / अद्रुष्टफल , which get counted in deciding our next birth.
More good adrishtaphal/ punyas/ merits will lead us to the higher birth, and more bad adrishtaphal/ papam/ demerits will land up us in lower species birth.

So intention behind our every action must be good. May our actions seem to be rude or harsh sometimes, our good intention behind them will get counted.
Your mushy behavior and soft words will not give you merits if intention behind it is not good.
So….let us act wisely….
Hari Om!
