Conch shells or shankh in Hindi are a part-and-parcel article of pooja done by Hindus. These conch shells are sea-snail shells which are collected from oceanic regions and kept at the altar of our homes.

The conch shell is used as a trumpet in order to get rid of negative energies. It is used in every festival, auspicious beginning, and to announce the start of a prayer or arrival of a deity.

The sound coming from it is associated with the sacred syllable ‘Om’ which is known as the first sound of creation. It is also beneficial for improving lung capacity.

Seeing elders in my home blow it, I had a latent curiosity to learn to blow it myself. But blowing and emitting sound from it is not as obvious as it looks. Merely blowing on its tip won’t produce a sound. There is a technique behind it and the technique is simple.

And this video HERE shows a kid perfectly teaching how to learn to blow a conch. If you have a conch at your home, and you don’t know how to use it, you can learn via this video if you want to.
