One of my most favourite teachers have been dogs. Whether my own or the free dog on the street who have spent time with. They are one of those teachers who follow what they preach. I cannot say I follow everything or have learnt everything even though they have been exemplary teachers. The flaw lies in the student.

  1.  No matter how bad your day is, always greet whoever you meet with a smile, a wag, lick. When you meet someone with that kind of abundance rest assured for at least two minutes you have managed to wash away all stress, anxiety in the other person. You made the person feel whole again.
  2. Don’t expect anything from anyone. Not even kindness.
  3. Enjoy the sun, the grass , your red ball like there is no tomorrow.
  4. There is no need to store the treats you get.  Do not hoard. Tomorrow will bring you another, and if not even that is fine.
  5. Just sitting with a person, without judging them, perhaps just putting a paw in their lap is enough to help them know they are loved, and everything will be alright. There is no need to talk .
  6. If you need to fight, be honourable.  Don’t deny you bit the other dog. After all sometimes some things are worth fighting for. But say you did it.
  7. Learn to say your sorry, it’s alright to give into greed, it’s alright to steal the cake. But when you need to say sorry mean it from the heart. The eyes never lie.
  8. Car rides are the best thing ever, pull your window down and feel the wind in your face.
  9. Show the people around you, you care everyday, even if it is offering them a dead mouse.
  10. If you can retain your innocence, you will never age, even when you are 70 you will still look like a puppy.
  11.  The day you need to finally leave, tell them you have no regrets. Even on your last day, play with your ball, wag your tall, tell them you hear them cry and you wish you could stay, but there is always a time to say goodbye. Leave with a love that never fades from human mind.
