Yesterday I didn’t drink too much water and the evening walk turned out to be longer than anticipated. On the way back home, I really began to feel very thirsty. I took a moment to think about what it feels to be thirsty. I realized how much we take things for granted. I shared this with my partner and she mentioned the 3/3/3 rule, although I don’t know the source or if it’s backed by science. Apparently we can’t live without oxygen for more than 3 mins, without water for more than 3 days and without food for more than 3 weeks. Perhaps, our ancestors experienced that more closely than we do today.
It had been a while since I watched Swami Ji’s video “The truth of death”, it always led me to meditate on mortality and gave me a certain level of detachment and dispassion. This week I just took some time during the day to just be quiet, not listen to music, no WhatsApp and just think about big picture life. Once again I felt so much freedom. This week was a challenging time with work but I felt a noticeable difference largely due to meditations on mortality. The freedom was amazing, it became fun even amidst the challenges and obstacles.
It always lights me up when I see acts of kindness and generosity and was thrilled to learn this week about the $2.7 billion donations to 286 charities globally by Mackenzie Scott. At least one of the recipients was the Nudge Foundation in India. NGOs are always trying to raise funds and this would have been such a godsend for them, I can only imagine.
Rumi quotes never fail to spark my soul and here are a few I read and did a deep dive on, maybe you will find one that speaks to you.
“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.”
“Gratitude is the wine for the soul. Go on. Get drunk.”
“Be certain that in the religion of Love there are no believers and unbelievers. LOVE embraces all.”
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
“The very center of your heart is where life begins – the most beautiful place on earth.”
“When you lose all sense of self, the bonds of a thousand chains will vanish.”
“The only lasting beauty is the beauty of the heart.”
