Makar Sankranti is one of the important festivals of the Hindu religion that they celebrate with great joy and happiness. It is celebrated every year on 14 January. The word Makar Sankranti derives from two words Makar and Sankranti. Makar means Capricorn and Sankranti means transition, which makes Makar Sankranti means the transition of the sun in the Capricorn.

It is celebrated by taking an early morning holy dip in the river and offering prayers to the sun. Indian’s believe that taking a dip in the holy river Ganga washes away all your sins and makes your soul pure. It is also believed that from Makar Sankranti, the days become longer and the nights become shorter. It marks the end of the winter season.

Kite flying is also a great part of the festival during the day, at that time the sky is filled with a lot of colorful and different design kites. People made a dish of Til and jaggery that add sparks to the festival. This festival is celebrated with love and happiness. At this festival, people give charity to needy people and get blessings from God.

It is believed that on this day Lord Vishnu conquered the demons and buried them under the Mandara Parvata, thereby marking the day as the victory of good over evil. It is celebrated in different parts of the country with different names such as Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Bihu in Assam, Bhogi in Andhra Pradesh, and Uttarayan in Gujarat.

It is a festival of great importance, joy, happiness, and prosperity. We should forget all our sorrows and lighten our lives with joy and evergreen happiness.
