In a recent Video, Swamiji says, “The person who realises his or her truth, when they share it with the world, often only those who operate at the same frequency or who have similar level of understanding accept that person’s truth. Others believe that there is another way and this person has not figured it yet”
There was once a wanderer. He was going to Delhi to sell multani mitti (fuller’s earth) loaded on bulls, accompanied by his servants. On the way, while passing through villages, much of his multani was sold off. Now the rucksacks or bags on the back of his bulls were full on one side and empty on the other. Thus, the bags kept slipping off the back of bulls .
Servants asked their master for a solution. He replied, “Fill Rajasthani sand (also called ret or bajri) on one side. It is in ample quantity here.” They followed his advice. Now, on one side of bags there was multani, on the other was sand.
Further on the way, they met a gentleman coming from Delhi. When he saw the sand falling from bags on one side. He asked the servants why they had filled one side of the bag with sand? The servants replied, “For balancing.” Upon hearing this, he replied “Both you and your master are fools! Why you are you not freeing half the bulls of the weight? Tie half-filled sacks of multani on the other side, so that half your bulls move freely.” The servants told him to discuss it with their master. So, he took it up with their master.
Wanderer: Where are you from? Where are you going?
Gentleman: I am from Sirohi. I was in Delhi to earn money but I faced a huge loss. Since I have no money left now, I am returning to my home town.
Wanderer tells his servants: Don’t take suggestion, consent or viewpoint of this gentleman. Although the intellect of this man looks good, its result will not. Otherwise he would have been rich. My judgement might look misplaced, but I have never faced any loss in my life.
Wanderer reachs Delhi. In the bazaar, he unloads both multani and sand in two piles for selling.
Meanwhile, the king of Delhi falls sick. Doctor says that if the king would live on the sand dunes of Rajasthan, then his body will become free of the disease, as in the sand lies the power to cure the body. So he suggests that the king be sent to Rajasthan. A discussion takes place between the courtiers.
—”Why to send our king? Why not bring sand from Rajasthan here!
—”Ok, then send camels to bring sand.”
—”Why to send camels? This is Delhi Bazaar, I saw someone selling Rajasthani ret in market.”
— “Then bring sand here, as soon as possible.”
The royal servants track down the wanderer in the market. And him about his sand’s cost.
—Wanderer: The price of both multani and sand is the same as both were brought and weighed equally on bulls.
—Servants purchase all the sand.
Now, think this over: if the wanderer had followed the suggestion of that gentleman will he make the extra money?
This proves that the intellect of the wanderer was working in right direction.
Conclusion: Those who have made real progress in life, whose conscience is developed, who have experienced that element, who have removed their sadness, sorrow (ashanti ), we should follow their advice because result of that will be good for our own well-being. So even if we can’t understand it yet, we should follow it until we do. Because have we benefitted from our own intellect till now? What progress have we made in our life by following our intellect?
