Making resolutions is one important thing everyone wants to do in the New Year. Here is my two pennies’ worth to help you make workable resolutions this New Year.

Time is more precious than money. Time wasted cannot be replaced. If we don’t have a plan in place we will spend our time randomly and not make much out of it.

‘’ ‘’When you fail to plan, you plan to fail ‘’

I love this wonderful nudge by Will Smith as William Richards, the father and coach of legendary Tennis players, Venus and Serena Williams.

Here are five questions, I thought, you must answer before New Year.

1.       What are the things you wanted to do badly yet postponed this year?

We often postpone important activities and our heart’s yearnings out of sheer laziness. Sometimes out of fear, it can also be due to time and financial constraints. These are the things that are behind our mind and keeps on nagging us at the most inappropriate times.

Make a list, and write what was holding you back from doing these things.

Would you like to give priority to the same activities this year also?

In that case, don’t postpone further, try to finish them off before New Year so that you can have satisfaction and space for fresh beginnings. If fear was holding you back, when you face the fear, you will realize the reality is something different than what you had imagined.  Chase your demons before they chase you. So, go ahead, do it.

2.       What was your most peaceful moment of this year?

Recollect the moment when you felt most peaceful during this year. All of us must have at least one or two such moments. Write them down. Send vibrations of gratitude to the Universe for giving you these precious moments. A great heart will attract more.

If peace was eluding you throughout the year, contemplate that. Find the reasons, and write them down. Make a decision to work on this in the New Year. Take hundred percent responsibility for your own peace and happiness.  It was not their mistake after all.

3.       What is your innermost regret?

Regrets are mostly related to energy-sapping, emotionally draining habits like addictions. You can do away with them this year. Habits are easy to form and difficult to break. But you have only 24 hours in one day and so much to accomplish. The best way to demolish a bad habit is to pack your spare time with healthy hobbies which you love. You must have noticed that you are tempted to do some time-consuming and body-harming activities when you are tired from a hectic day of work.  This is your way of separating work time from  ‘me time ‘. You also have only this much love to spare, when all that is consumed, you won’t have any time for the energy-sapping negative habits.

4.       What were your trophy moments?

Now it is time for all those trophy moments of the year. We all have at least one or two of these moments. If it is not so obvious, spare a few moments of self-love and appreciation. You will find them.

It can be trivial for the world, but it is your precious achievement. Give a pat on the back (on your back ) for this. 😊 ( I borrowed this line from osme mail whenever I pressed the publish button. This line never fails to give me a smile )

5.       What are your wildest dreams?

The dreams that give you a smile whenever you think of it. Don’t limit yourself. Take out some ‘me time ‘’ Write, Reflect, Write ‘’. Spend some quiet time reading your answers. Sleep over it for a day or two.

Now you are ready to make that perfect foolproof New Year resolution.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone  😊 Jai Sri Hari 🙂
