As Swamiji shared in the last post “The other day I picked up my Kindle with a view to eat it. Just joking (about the eating part). It has 900+ items out of which over 600 are books (20% unread). “, the first thing that would come in one’s mind is about the level of effort he puts on writing every single post. Personally, I completely stopped reading self-help books after joining os.me as Swamiji’s 450+ posts were more than enough for me to learn and implement in a lifetime and it also saved me from a lot of researching (just googling for hours for good self-dev books) and a lot of tension as the books would get heavy on my head and also most of them only included only one or two methods (that only God knows do they really work) spanning over 300+ pages. So as I was saying about the amount of content Swamiji feeds himself for us, he must have found an outlet for all of the wisdom stored up and I am not just pointing to his blogs as he found another outlet through “booklish.net”. The website existed between 11 Nov 2013 until 13 Sep 2017 when it said that the domain name has expired. A link to the Twitter page was present which is still there although no posts are out there. One thing to note is that the URL( booklish.net) is still up though recreated and probably hosted by wix.com as it says in the footer of the website. Anyway here is Swamiji’s message on the about section of the website :
Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. Without books, the development of civilization would have been impossible. They are engines of change (as the poet said), windows on the world and lighthouses erected in the sea of time. They are companions, teachers, magicians, bankers of the treasures of the mind. Books are humanity in print.
(Barbara Tuchman. Bulletin of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Vol. 34, No. 2)
Given the aforesaid quote, I have no better words to say what I think of books. There are two things any good book offers: joy and knowledge. Books are tools for the wise and crutches for the otherwise — one uses them effortlessly, the other thoughtlessly. This site is about the joy we get from reading, hence the name booklish (coined from ticklish). While, to me, the greatest source of primary knowledge originates from the finest master called Life, books bridge the gap between the empirical and the conceptual, between the intellectual and the instinctual. They immortalize expressions. They leave us with a message, a thought, a way. A passage, a short sentence, a simple phrase can open up an entire new world for us. I have setup this website to share interesting passages from the books we read. But this site is not about me or the books I read. It is about us and the books we read. You are welcome to submit your favorite passage(s) here. My goal is to share a passage or two every week. Hope you enjoy. After all, who knows just what may inspire you, nudge you.
Booklish — tick your mind, tickle your soul.
