“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”
Ronald Reagan
A few days back I read a quote on social media that read, “If everyone is happy with you, then you have made a lot of compromises, and if you are happy with yourself, you have worked towards yourself, not others.“
Now, this statement comes with some controversies, as things can’t always be in our favor, and we need to make peace with it. Then I read Swami’s most recent post, in which he stated that if we need to make something quick and effective, we should help others rather than try to make ourselves happy.(Remember the balloon game?) In the same way, it is the person’s personal choice to either be happy or just live the way that makes him happy.
Now, how is it possible that we can make everyone happy? That’s not possible at all, so it’s better to be the person who is master of one. Yes, being a jack of all trades won’t give you the kind of success you want, but you need to focus on one thing and be the one who knows all about it.
I still remember my second individual meeting with Swami, and when he asked why I was there, I never had a question, so I said just like that and tried hard to think of what I could ask but could not find any. So, if we can find the answer to that one question for ourselves, that is what defines us.
When you stand up for the cause you have given your life for, that is all, and it is what will make a difference in the long run. So if we want to summarise it,
- Find your calling.
It’s the toughest thing when we try to find out what we are up to and what makes us happy and satisfied; trust me, it takes a lot of courage and time. Plus, we try to find it in the outer world, but the fact is, it is within us. We have to go inside and try to figure out what is important for us. - Start walking on it until you become its master.
When we find what our inner calling is, the toughest part is figuring out how to walk on it, and if you are the breadwinner of the family, then it is even more difficult for you to find the right blend. Social obligations will be a big pressure for you. But if we are able to take the first step, which is the toughest, it will be smooth right after that, as the first step is always the toughest, and we can’t cross a ridge in two small steps; we need to take a giant leap. - Keep working on it and make it the reason you live.
When you are at a stage where you have been on the journey of life and you know you are enjoying it, there is no turning back. It will be out of the question if things don’t fall into place, but it won’t be a cake walk. The ups and downs of life will be there, and sometime life will knock you down, but remember if you refuse to get up, that is when you really lose.
And the day you make it the reason you live, you need nothing. You have done the best you could, and now it’s time for nature to reward you in whatever way it wants to.
