As per Ayurveda all the diseases in the body are due to imbalance of one or more of the three doshas in the body i.e. Vata Pitta and Kapha. After going to yogi nitya’s videos on youtube I know for sure that major issue for me is Vata Dosha followed by pitta.

How do I know that? – All the symptoms are there like  anxiety, overthinking, hairfall ,insomnia etc.

How to balance the Vata – there are too many things but I’m focusing on doing more with less so first thing would be to apply warm oils like almond of sesame oil on the body and since good quality massages taken professionally are so expensive I will do them on my own.

In November  following are the tiny changes I plan to make to balance the vata in my body:

  1. November 7 – Going back to the basics I know that I have a habit of drinking less water than what my body requires and swamiji has also stated the importance of hydration in the article : https://os.me/perfecting-your-posture-in-meditation/  so even though I know I need to drink more water I just never feel all that thirsty and don’t really feel the need to have more water on a consious level. I did have a kidney stone and do feel the dehydration sometimes so intellectually I know I need to have more water but bringing that into behaviour is a different matter altogether. In Ayurveda it is recommended that we should have water that is stored in soil based container(matka) or copper vessel first thing in the morning to help empty the bowels in morning. I already have wheatgrass drinking routine going so in addition to that before or after the wheatgrass added to warm water I will start having one warm glass of water so two glasses I’d have taken before starting my day, something is better than nothing right.  Again to make sure I do this there will be just one set of morning routine not a cumbersome to do list. So far we only have one warm glass of water and one wheatgrass guice to that. All the other variables stay the same.
  2. November 14 – Jyotishmati oil for nasal issues and strengthening the memory. This experiment deserves its own detailed post which I will share when I actually try it but briefly its supposed to be good for the brain power , memory and for people have have frequent cold and mucus formation in nasal passage.
  3. November 21 – weekly head-massage with an oil which is suppose to prevent hairfall and remove dandruff. Even if this oil doesn’t work I will replace it with a better product but the idea is to consistenly apply oil on my scalp and leave overnight so that eventually the hairfall issues comes under control or else Im worried I’ll go bald even before my father in law. Right now noone can guess that I have severe hairfall but if it continues in long term then for sure the impact will be visible.
  4. November 28 – maintain the old task list and let it all settle in. This is crucial for me as its easy to start new things for me but then I have a tendency to let them phase out.

I am itching to do all this at once but no that would defeat the purpose and I would make sure I go slow and go long this time. The hardest thing about all these changes is not the actual changes but to break my own vritti of doing things all at once and then not continue them in long term. That’s the real work the tasks are just surface level things to help break that vritti. Yes in many situations its good to take massive action but in my case it stems from impatience and wanting to get the results asap and if they are not visible then giving up altogether.

At the end of month my routine would look like:

morning: wheatgrass juice+1warm glass of water+drishti eye drops+Jyotishmati oil in nasal passage

night : None

sunday  night – warm oil head massage lightly

November 12 update: Its certainly not as easy as it sounds. Even though till now my task list is fairly small (warm water glass+wheatgrass+eye drop) still some days morning tea was far too tempting and I first had that and later drank wheatgrass when my phone reminded me. Since we are in this for the long haul Im sure it will be worth it. I am still itching to make more changes simulteanously but not allowing myself to follow my impulse is also part of the mental restraint training.
