Self-talk

The whole day from morning till night we go on continuously talking with people around. May we be anywhere, our home, at the workplace, in shops, in the garden, etc. We are continuously interacting with the people around us.

When the people are not around us and we are alone, then what do we do? We talk with ourselves.

What is self-talk? It is talking with ourselves. In self-talk, there are no gross words or voices. There seems to be silence externally but a lot of noise internally. This talk is only in the thought-form.

Our mind is restless like a monkey. It jumps from one thought to another thought. The moment you see anything or being and thoughts regarding them start overflowing. Overthinking is the root cause of losing our mental peace.

Simulate the mind with the sky. When there are lots of clouds in the sky, the brightness of the sky decreases. It looks dull and dark. When these clouds get very much loaded with the water droplets, they burst out and start pouring as rain.

In the same way, clouds of different thoughts gather in the mind loaded with all types of emotions. And at a certain time, they burst out, pouring the rain of expressions. This is how the cycle of thoughts-expressions-thoughts continuously goes on to destroy our mental peace.

At the transactional/ vyavaharic level, we have to interact with the people with our gross speech and need self-talk as well to lead a successful material life. Self-talk is necessary for self-improvement also.
But to survive in the race of worldly achievements,  we also need some peaceful time to get recharged and rejuvenated and for this, there is a  simple technique.

Just close your eyes and stop talking with yourself at least for five minutes and see the results.

You will experience that not talking with yourself is a thought-free state. You will be calm and silent. Your mind will be like a clear sky without any clouds of thoughts. You will experience peace and bliss.
Even if you open your eyes,  you will experience that you are just observing everything and every being without prejudice or judgement. As self-talk has stopped,  You will see the things as they are, without any thoughts… no place for I, you, mine and they’re… just as it is.

This is the state everyone wishes to be in, just as an observer, sakshi/ the witness, beyond getting affected by anything.

Practising this technique for a few minutes daily, regularly, at your convenient time is sure to give the results — a peaceful yet cheerful mind.
