Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.

Harold S. Kushner.

When was the last time you helped someone, and the answer would differ depending on the person you helped? There is always a reason why we do what we do and how we do it. There are a variety of reasons that motivate us to go above and beyond to assist others. Let’s dig into some situations:

When we have an obligation (family),
When any of our family members, whether close or far away, requires assistance, we feel obligated to assist them. When their children require assistance, their parents love and care for them. when we go the extra mile to do what our children want (share your experiences). When it is our distant relatives also, we need to leave behind our work and attend the meeting, function, or whatever it may be. These are done as social obligations were, and we expect the same from them.

When it is done for the sake of love (between friends),

These are the extended families we form over time. These are the people who are sometimes closer than your family and are just a call away. They are the ones who will be there with you through thick and thin.

When it is no longer under pressure (Official)
These are the situations you must complete due to work obligations. These are the job profile requirements that are to be completed in the stipulated period of time, and the reason we do so is because we expect rewards in return.

When it is motivated by gratitude (pure love/selflessness).
This is the category in which we do whatever we want and enjoy doing. These are the acts that are defined as selfless acts in the books, and they are done by a handful of people for everyone in the world, and those are called social people. These are the people who see everyone as equals, have a kind heart, and assist anyone who comes their way. Though these are the people who are rarely found, these are the people who will be standing for you, irrespective of who you are.

Consider yourself to be the type of person who will be there for people no matter what.
