Swamiji has been very busy by taking live sessions to guide us on the journey of life. Last week in the second English discourse he discussed about Stocktaking of our Life. He started with a discussion on asking ourselves fundamental questions about life, not in terms of existential questions, but questions to know where exactly do we stand in our life and in the grand scheme of things. Many of us go through the whole life without thinking or questioning “What am I here for?” or “What do I intend to do with my life?”. He then said that often, drowning in the waves of life, we surrender to life in a wrong way and give up on our dreams, which is a mistake. What is important is to sit back and do a simple analysis/stock take of our life. He recommended all of us to answer four basic questions to help us analyze our life and identify our priorities. The questions were as follows:

  1. What do you want to do in your life? List top 5 priorities. These are the only ones that deserve your time, attention, and energy.
  2. What are you not proud of? (Top 3 things we did in our life that we consider as sin, or those we would have done differently. These are the basis of guilt, self-doubt, and insecurities in our life.)
  3. What are you proud of?
  4. If there were no constraints, no barriers, no boundaries, what would you do? You should also think why you would do it.

We always read, listen, and think of Swamiji’s teachings and make mental notes of it. But when it comes to formally applying the teachings, we often fail because of no documentation or journaling. At the request of the #osdotme superstar Meera ji, I have written this post and created a PDF (link provided below) with the questions that Swamiji recommended us to answer. Please feel free to print it and fill it out, and also share it with family and friends. It will make Swamiji very happy and proud, and help us understand ourselves better. And here he discusses more on Where are you going?
