Superstition generally refers to “a belief or practice resulting from trust in magic or chance”. It is an irrational belief in supernatural influences, especially as leading to good or bad luck. Today, not only illiterate people, but educated people also believe in superstition.

Causes of Superstitions:

1. Culture – It plays a major role in superstition. In Indian culture, people are mostly surrounded by false practices and beliefs. Due to this people inherited superstition. They start depending on luck and fortune due to which they forget that ” nothing could be achieved without hard work “.

2. Illiteracy – No doubt that India is a developed country but it still has a percentage of illiterate people who fail to distinguish between fact and fiction. They easily get trapped in false practices and beliefs.

3. Fear – Some people perform superstition out of fear like it is believed that if a black cat crosses your path that indicates that something bad will happen with you so due to that fear people change their way which gives a way to the new superstition.

4. Society – In people, they have the psychology of following or copying others. In society, people follow one another. When one person follows superstition, then another person also starts believing in superstition from one person to ten people to a hundred and then an infinite number of people.

Believing in superstition is not good, it reflects backward thinking of the society. Superstitious people fail to solve their problems. Superstition can have a negative impact on society. Due to superstition, women are sexually assaulted, humiliated, and even lead to death. Superstition is highly associated with financial risk and life risk. Superstitions lead to disputes among family and friends. Sometimes superstition leads to the death of any living being or mentally hurts the person.

In this new era, people should believe in fact, not in these types of superstitions which are very dangerous for society. To stop these types of superstitions, one should think positively, follow the guidelines of parents or teachers. Realize that there’s no rational proof that these superstitions can affect your life. Try to avoid superstitious beliefs and make the people aware of these kinds of superstitions as much as possible.

Hope this will help you!
