Back in 2006 I stumbled upon this book called The Artists Way, by Julia Cameron. It was lying burried under a pile of books, in my friends bookshelf. He was more than happy to give it to me. I started reading it with absolutely no idea of what a gem it actually was! The book was 12 week program designed to unearth the artist in you. I wasn’t even an artist, I cynically thought to myself, but it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try. And looking back I’m so glad I did! Within just 6 weeks I had done a whole bunch of things that I had put on the back burner for years. It was unbelievable. The book amongst a host of other things, made me happy.
One of the things the author Julia insisted was that everyone using the book had to write 3 pages of, stream of consciousness, writing every morning as soon as they wake up and the second ‘have to do’ thing was an artist date which is explained in great detail in the book. I completed the program and continued the practice of morning pages (as she calls it) everyday for years and needless to say it was life altering.
During the years that I continued the morning pages I enriched my life by learning the guitar, learning how to swim, drive, doing a short yoga teachers training course, regularly practicing pranayam and yogasans, and learning a meditation technique and sticking with practicing it regularly.
Clearly this book is magical.
But like all bad things, all good things also come to an end. After some years, I stopped the morning pages, and slowly but surely went back to being a procrastinater!
And now no matter how hard I try, I am unable to start the book again! I keep putting it off!
So after desperate attempts at trying to do it myself I decided to ask the kindest community in the world for a partner/partners in this venture!
Anyone at os.me struggling with procrastination or feeling blocked in any way, it would be great if you join me on this 12 week program so that we egg each other on, and make each other accountable and motivate each other.
We decide a date to start reading the book and then start with week 1 and so on. At the end of the week we check on each other and honestly tell one another how we’ve faired. I’m hoping this will help us grow.
Anyone interested can please leave a comment and we’ll begin the journey together.
