The Best Gift You Can Give To Someone
It’s Our Time And Presence!
—
Our presence and time are the best gifts that we can give to somebody. I have realised this again and again.
On Republic Day, I attended one of my friends’ birthday. I was with her and her family till it was evening. And we had a good time. I arranged the cake, the candles, some chocolates and even a family pack of maggi😋. Her mother prepared a hearty lunch for us. We sang, we danced a little bit, we ate cake and took lots of photos of course. When it was time, I gave her a gift with a note: “A small gift for you. A gift is not a thing, but a memory to cherish. May your life be filled with joy and happiness. That’s my wish for you.”
It was a home event, so nothing elaborate. Three other family members were there for some time. She and her brother sang, and we had discussions. Time flew by…
See, everything can be taken, but how can someone take the memories‽ When we give someone our time and presence, we are actually giving our life. No? Life is a certain amount of time and energy after all. With our presence we give our energy and with our time our life.
Sometimes, and actually quite often, we take people for granted. We don’t realise how precious those moments are when we are with our loved and dear ones. We may not see them tomorrow! These moments may never come again! Shouldn’t we be grateful for the fact that someone is giving us their valuable, irrevocable time?
Whenever you ask someone to come over to your house, or someone is giving you his or her personal time, be grateful to that person. And when you give your time and energy to someone, make sure that doesn’t go waste. Make that a beautiful moment. It’ll live on…
When two or more people meet together, it’s a tremendous opportunity to add some value to each other’s lives, to share our love, to help each other, to enrich by presence. When two human beings, with love and compassion in their hearts, are there for each other, that’s a divine moment, I think. What can be more beautiful than this‽ Only perhaps the company of our Isht or Guru!
Solitude has its own beauty and necessity. And togetherness has its own. In whatever space we are, we must learn to give our all in that moment. To give every moment its due is the great art of living!
Things will lose their value. Words will be forgotten. But, time and energy, once given, cannot be taken back, cannot die. So, if you really love and care, give your time and beautiful presence. That will be the best gift to that person.
