Our Rigveda and Arthasatra, has a word most commonly used and we tend to use it in our day-to-day activities. ‘Dasa’ usually means enemy or servent. Apart form it. It has other meaning such as servent of God, devotee, or anyone who has surrendered to God. 

Max Muller proposed that Dasa Reff. to indigenous people living in South Asia before the arrival of the Aryans. It is believed that shivalik’s of Himachal Pradesh. Were inhabited during the pre vedic period by Dasa. 

Acc, to Sri Aurobindo, believe that word like dasa used in Rigveda symbolically and should be interpreted spiritually. Dasa does not only refers to human beings. Rather, to demon who hinders the spiritual attainment of the mythic. This word discribes the disorder, chaos, and the dark side of human nature. 

Many Dasas are purely mythical and can only reffered to demons. It is said that later on, due to the constant efforts of Rishi Vishwamitra and Rishi Vashishta, Dasas were accepted into the Aryan fold.
