The Guide is one of the best works of R.K. Narayan, one of the grandfathers of English writing in India. He is one of my favourite authors too.

The Guide is about the spiritual journey of an ordinary man Raju. He starts of as a tour guide who guides people who visit the city of Malgudi.

He falls in love with a married woman, and goes through a lot of trials and tribulations in order to win her. But fate had other plans for him and he lands up in a jail.

After coming back from jail he comes into bizarre situations and he starts acting out as a spiritual guide but in the process of being a spiritual guide, something changes inside him.

This book is about that change, that transformation which happened in him and how from starting out as a tour guide to being a conman, he finally becomes one of the holiest men in India.
