During my daughter s Hindi exam preparation,i came across a poem which was pre independence when a class of religious society did not allow people born in certain caste to enter temples
The poem was about one such devotee who’s daughter died of cholera just hoping that her flowers reach the feet of Lord but before her father could secretly in morning wee hours enter the temple he was held a convict by the High born of society and jailed for violating society principles.
In this birth i have been priveleged( or is it a privelege) to be born and married in the highest clan of Hindus! I hear my grandmother even use to put Ganga jal on herself if shaddow of someone other than similar caste fell on her( what a pity).
This was conditioning..i don’t blame them too,we usually are ignorant if not litterate or compassionate.
Now to the topic.
My house cleaner is now from the same caste which my ancestors did not allow to enter home too.
He is dearly loved by me and my family and is integral part of our house hold.
The most joyus act i see him do is each day bring colourful flowers with lots of excitement, love and devotion from our terrace each morning for me to do Pooja.
So each day our Lord gets adorned by the affection of someone who’s ancestors could not dare to recite hyms and enter religious places!
Were we so unkind that time?
