I won’t say I have been through a lot of train travels, but lonely stations and lonely roads have been a great attraction to me. Just like every tree on the road share a different sight they have seen on the road, every platform (street light) has a story of its own.
I guess some of the best stories come from those lonely and rusty benches. You can find them in parks too and even they have some of the best stories to share. Every background shares a different story. These lonely benches have seen people meeting for the first time after a long gap, they have seen families waiting for trains for hours. They have gossips to share, and sad and happy stories. They might even have a story where someone received a call about the death of a special one.
I guess they are the eyes and ears of the station. I think some of them may even be mean to others or some might even share gossip about what they have heard or seen. Or some of the lonely benches might even be a ‘Wallflower’. They see everything, maybe make a note of it too but knowingly behave on it. They see but they will not share. They will also be the support that someone wants when they go through something.
It’s an irony that I am finding relations between the living and the dead. But every street lamp has a story of a boy/girl studying and working hard to pay off loans and achieve her dreams no matter what century we are living in. The street lamps that share a bench, have stories of people expressing love to each other and also stories where they go on different paths and never turn their back. They might have even seen someone slipping in notes to someone through the books they share. And these benches even have a story where someone sat there and wrote one story of their own.
At night these street lights and benches give horror vibes but we don’t know how comforting they can be. We can understand this only when we sit there. Especially when we want someone by our side but not to speak a single word to. My guess is these benches and street lamps are the best partners for such an evening/night. But I want to know, is this wrong to even try this with humans? Sit beside them doing/speaking nothing? Sometimes silence can do wonders. I guess we must give it a try every once in a while.
