One of the things I always liked about the American culture is the day everyone celebrates Thanks Giving! As a kid, I always wondered, seriously, a day for just saying thanks! And as I grew up the serious exclamation converted to ‘why don’t we have this day”!
To understand the power of gratitude, I strongly believe one has to be aware of every feeling when one received it. Humble, positivity at its best, warmth, and kindness to list a few of the many feelings that arise when one receives thanks for their action or an expression of gratitude. It is one of the key ingredients to building a solid relationship that’s based on trust and transparency.
I still remember my dad asking me to e grateful for everything I have. But during my school days, I had difficulty digesting it and making it a habit. I was confused, why say thanks? Even if I tried, I felt very artificial. I could not continue for long.
Today, my morning starts with prayer, gratitude, and prayer! Everything has changed. For good. I think ever since I started the Mantra Sadhana, and praying, expression of gratitude became my prayer.
I will be honest I always wanted something or the other. When I wished I was greedy. I wanted everything. Ma has been blessed to an extent, but just like a mother, I think SHE knows when not to provide chocolates to the kiddo.
Over a period of time, expressing gratitude for what I have and I achieved has become the mantra. People I know, I met colleagues, and friends. For everything, I am so grateful to them and to the divine mother.
How can I forget Os.me!

My sincere thanks to @siddhika. Your comment led me to email and then conversations over the phone, discussing all the grace of Swamiji. It is such a pleasure talking to you Siddhi ji.
@meeraom ji, I think you are a motherly figure at OS-ME. A sister who speaks bindaas. From the heart and always ready to help. Thanks for all your comments, and posts. Please know that I love reading them.
@prahalad, we met recently, and let me tell you that I am a fan of your posts already. Your tone and style of writing is elegant and friendly.
And thanks to everyone here (even if your name is not here, but I know you) who made me feel like a part of a big family. For including me.
And Swamiji. I keep praying to you daily to express my gratitude for everything you have done for all of us. For humankind. I experience the pull ever since I read about you. I do not analyze anything now, I just remember you and start DOING! Knowing that you will take care. Thanking is such a small gesture, but please accept my thanks, respect, warmth, and love for you as I touch your lotus feet.
Gratitude can be practiced daily. Start by saying thank you for everything you receive. Breakfast, tea/coffee, lunch, and dinner. To begin with. Slowly it will come into your actions, reactions, and others will observe the changed person you have become.
Jai Shri Hari
