One day when the lights are out
this soul shall travel to a far away place
what will it find
darkness or light
maybe just a shade of quiet
the silent beauty of His majestic form
those childlike eyes spilling love
as if softly calling out my name

That moment in time
when the heart shall align
with the creator’s will
for such a day I wait impatiently
it’s not sadness that compels me so
courted by joy
pursued by love
life is full like a winter moon

Then what’s it about your world
that pulls me to your eternal abode
why my heart yearns for it
for You
for that peaceful sleep
sighing restfully by your feet
Oh I yearn to touch that tranquil state
where life and death are the same

I know You Lord
in my own way
in my smallness too
I’ve loved You so
in life’s highs and lows
You are its equipoise
blind desires become ash
as the sun of consciousness rises from the west

Such chaos resides in the human mind
yet, your grace so impartial
has cleansed the most depraved minds
Oh of your mercy
I can sing a million songs
and yet more songs
rise from the heavens
to fall upon the flesh of men

Sometimes I truly fail to see
my own flaws whatever they maybe
for those You’ve not a judgement to pass
not an unkind glance
O beautiful Lord of heavens and beyond
this life so sweet with all its colour and mayhem
I give up at your holy feet
let my every desire be You

Just as when I close these eyes
to find your merciful gaze on me
let this tortured spirit rest in You
like a child in a cradle by the parents’ door
oh tell me please
what use is your bhakti O Lord
if it won’t bring me closer to You
what use indeed

Now let’s do away with the
formality of life
its hurried course
its horrid strides
everything that moves
You’ve made it so O beautiful Narayana
unmoving now I wish to stay
by your lotus feet
