All of us have grown playing Pee kaa boo with our first care givers…
How we used to laugh when mom said” aeee jhaa” ” aee jhaa”..
We grew a little and …eating food was a game too…kaun khayega…billi khaegi yaa mithu khayega….and mithu baby gulped the tasty chooree of desi ghee roti and sugar. …..Rolly polly Rolly polly up up up was next in our game list with lovely hand moments.
When we learnt eye hand condition chiriya urr was our favourite game with elder sibling or neighbour hood kids…most enjoyable on that was being hit on clapped hands with nimbu mirchi chaat masaala on top on picking finger on bhains urr………….,………
Next came chooha daur billi aae where Sonu and monu used to hold either arm of mumma and run round and round to catch each other….
Oh how can i forget kiklee…
It was more head spinning than any roller coaster ride. …
Little more mature to manage our girna parna we played race…3 neighbouring kids had to touch and come back in Ussain bolt speedy and declare i m first…………
As the cognitive skills developed ice pice or lukka chuppi or chhupan chhupaee was next favourite…the fascinating part being dhapppa when u sneaked to touch denner from his back.
Ofcourse those who s parents were strict about sending them out doors played gudia ki shadi and ghar ghar making patto ki sabji or playing teacher teacher or doctor doctor with imaginary black board and chalk and grand pa s worn out chashmas…
There was dog in the bone where we put a rumaal in middle and 2 equi distant players had to pick and run towards there corner……..
There were girls playing gitte and boys playing kanche …how fascinating was to look in those transparent eye ball shaped marbles..
Boys also used to play gulli danda and run discarded tyres on foot path in colonies…
Latoo with wooden tops and shoe lace strings dancing on hand palms was a delight to see….

Then there was Staapoo or barfee and one game in which we had to stand in circle and throw a stone on the back and a friend had to catch it, if he dropped it the denner had to go to stone in langree taang in 7 steps.
We played pithoo and visited construction sights to collect marbels of small size to make a pahad to hit it with a foot ball and then one team member had to make the mountain again and other team member would hit him. Then there was a game of chain where we could hold our favorite freinds hand and catch more kids to make a long chain…
We played simon says or in hindi Shivaji kehte hei..
A child did some action other than what Shivaji dint say and he was out. …
How famous was spoon and nimbu race ,musical chairs and statue game in colony independence day celebrations.
Poshampa was among our favourites with lal quila and clock theft and Jail ki rotee Jail kaa paanee.
Oh how can i forget Vish Amrit or fire ance ice where a denner was considered having poison so all whom he touche sat down and the other could touch with Amrit and u could run again…
Does anyone of us remember kokla chhipaki or i sent a letter to my freind and on the way i dropped it…a child use to throw a hanker cheif behind one child and when he realised he used to run and catch the denner….
Aankh michholi with mumms dupatta on eyes was also a pleasurable game and indian version of blind fold..
I remember a game…ek larkee dhoop mei baithee ro rahi thee…utho saheli aansoo ponchho apnaa sathi dhoond lo..
Unchh neech kaa paapraa..kitna mazedaar thaa we climbed on neighbours gates ,stairs or boundary walls!…
Langri taang was played fondly by buntee jo bajaate they sabki ghantee. …
Rackets were called badmintton back then and ludo ,chineese checker and saanp seedi great summer vacation indoor time pass among out of station visitor cousins. Families played paploo ,rummy ,bhabo and 3 patti in cards with each other…what fun time bonds….
There was Antakshari of last word ending songs and movie names in family dinners….
All tested their acting skill s while playing drum sherads with latest hindi movies and some English movie we knew.
School free periods included playing zero kanta ,raja mantri chor sipahi ,name place ,animal thing ,London with fill in the blanks with half movie names……………….is each os.me member nostalgic? P.s…..just remembered i was a born cricketer with bat made by Thaapeee…a stick used to wash clothes!
