My Late maternal grandfather was inclined toward spirituality. He received dheeksha from  Thirumuruga Kirupananda variyar. He became a vegetarian and would sing songs of Lord Kartikeya every morning. Every day after waking up at 5 am, he would listen to the Vishnu Sahasranamam. Me and my cousins had no clue why he would listen to someone singing in Sanskrit without knowing what it meant and we would put the pillow over our ears in the early morning. Only recently after learning the significance of Lalitha Sahasranama from Om Swami did I venture towards Vishnu Sahasranama. I also learned that one need not know the meaning, just reciting or listening to it would benefit everyone immensely.

As I contemplated learning the verses, I came across this beautiful upanyasam by Sanskrit Scholar Dushyanth Sridhar in English. A chemical Engineering graduate from Bits Pilani, he gave up his corporate career for spreading Sanatana Dharma. His rendition in Tamil as well as in English is simply superb. His oratory skill to synthesize the Vedas, Puranas, Gita, and Vaishnavite literature and how the Vaishnavite Saints spearheaded the works of the Divine is magical. For a Bhaktha no logic or reason is needed for he is already in love with the Divine in his own way. But for a logical, analytical, reasoning, and rational mind, faith alone is not enough for it needs to be validated by every possible means and that is what he is best at. Do listen to it and enjoy the Significance and the benefits of Vishnu Sahasranama. One can witness the presence of Ma Saraswathi in him.

Believe me, you won’t be disappointed and your love for the divine will only increase a million fold. His discourse in Tamil on Sri Suktam and Purusha Suktam is also blissful.
