…….Can u make salt less besan cheelas for me? Asked Roohee.

Rohee was a 37 year old fair complexioned pretty lady who was on a plump side with a hair parting always filled with red sindoor,a forehead having a big red bindi and eyes always lined with Kohl.

I met her at a hospital cafe while having green tea, she was having normal tea with omlett. Her husband was admitted in hospital with a blood clot that was operated in his head due to High blood pressure.

On talking  to Ruhi ,she confided and even sobbed to me,the couple was childless, she had lost her in-laws and her own dad before her marriage only and her own mother and brother were depression patient who dint move out of home. With no one by her side but FAITH, She became like a little sister to me.

Alcohol, good food ,loud music and dance may connect you with many so called freinds ( it’s a lost crowd which will never come to us if we don’t have the same gossips to offer,or designer clothes to flash).but pain , suffering and devotion connect u unconditionally.

I helped Ruhi who had not gone home for 18 days and i felt she dint have enough funds( may be her brother in law was sponsor the hospital bill, i saw her often making then talk to the doctor). Got her some much needed under garments, slips and stolls and some of my daughter s t shirt and lower and my suits.

She was full of gratitude when last Wednesday she requested me ,Deedee can u make salt free cheela for me for Tomorrow s Thursday fast!

My own mom had just come out of ICU in a room ,and being a sole care giver,I had kept a night attendant for her in hospital.i used to come back home at night to send my school going son to bus stop and arrange b fast and lunch for my husband.

Last Thursdays morning i had an early bath and i cooked yellow colour salt less cheelas for Ruhi with most devotion.

  • I have myself never kept a Thursday fast but my Lord Vishnu knows my love for him and made me a medium to prepare his bhog!
